10 Essential Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Car
1. Air Vents:
Air vents collect a surprising amount of dust. Use an old paintbrush or a foam brush to clean inside the vents. Alternatively you could clean the vents with a vacuum or a can of compressed air.
2. Install a Small Bin:
Attach a bin to the back of a headrest, because who hasn't found a crumpled receipt or empty coffee cup wedged between the seats. It'll be quick and easy to remove when you stop at a petrol station.
3. Pet Hair Removal:
For the ultimate battle against pet fur, invest in a removable dog bed that can be cleaned separately. A vacuum or a pet-specific brush will help you fight the furry invasion, one tuft at a time.
4. Tyres:
After winter’s snow, mud, and road salt, give your tyres and alloys a good scrub. A little soapy water on a sponge will do wonders. Your wheels will shine like they just rolled out of a showroom
5. Windscreen Wipers:
Lift the wipers and lock them in place, or hold them up if they won't stay. Use a sponge with hot, soapy water to clean the blades, being careful not to damage the rubber. Wipe until all dirt is removed, then clean the wiper arms and mechanism the same way. Remove any soap residue with surgical spirit (never white spirit). If the wipers leave streaks, try rubbing alcohol before replacing them. For a clearer windscreen, apply shaving foam to the inside and wipe it off to prevent fogging. Repeat as needed. Your windscreen will be so clear, you'll be able to see that pothole coming.
6. Headlights:
Use toothpaste on a cloth to scrub cloudy headlights. The baking soda in toothpaste helps clear up the lenses, improving your vehicles visibility.
7. Floor Mats and Upholstery:
Shake out and wash your floor mats with stain remover. For upholstery, use a fabric cleaner for stubborn stains or a leather cleaner for seats, and let them air dry so your car smells like fresh air.
8. Dashboard:
Your dashboard seems to have a magnetic attraction to dust and fingerprints, doesn’t it? Start by giving it a gentle hoover with a soft brush attachment, then wipe it down with a damp microfibre cloth - think of it as a mini spa day for your car. For those difficult spots, grab a soft-bristled toothbrush or paintbrush to get into the hard-to-reach areas.
If your car has a touch-screen infotainment system, just wipe it with a damp cloth to get rid of the fingerprints. Avoid harsh chemicals unless you’re looking to turn your screen into an abstract art project. Finish with a dry microfibre cloth to banish any lingering streaks.
9. Clean Your Windows:
Make it a habit to clean your car windows inside and out. Use a glass cleaner that’s safe for automotive windows, and wipe them down with a microfibre cloth for that streak-free finish. Trust us, your car will look clearer, and you might actually start seeing that parking space you’re trying to squeeze into.
10. Car Air Fresheners:
Car air fresheners are a simple way to keep your car smelling fresh and pleasant. They help mask any unwanted smells and replace them with a more inviting scent, whether it’s fruity, floral, or that classic "new car smell." Just pop one in, and it’ll make your car feel more comfortable for both you and your passengers.
